South coast metalcore favourites bow out with grace

Southampton’s beloved metalcore band have confirmed this will be their final record, and it’s a worthy way to bow out. The songwriting’s polished, with OHOH’s usual heavy riffs and passionate vocal delivery, but the memorable melodies are dialled up a notch and there is a sense of infectious hope, thanks to strong choruses and soaring fretwork. Burial Season and Grave Warden represent a heavier side; the stripped-back In Reflection is hypnotically fragile; Hope & Hell is fiercely sticky with a heavy and clean vocal dynamic reminiscent of early Atreyu; and Funeral Verse is a fabulous mix of hooky and frenzied. Their swansong marks a sad loss. ■■■■■■■
