MG Motor are very keen to stress the fun element to their new MG3. Whilst remaining doubtful that
handing over £10,000 of my own money for any reason will ever be fun, I must say that spending a day with the car at Silverstone was an absolute delight from start to finish and fun was certainly had by all concerned. You can read all about it from p58, but suffice it to say the new MG outperformed all expectations. That did get me thinking though, and what popped into my head was that the idea of having fun really is a recurring theme in the features this month. Keith Herkes says that his
18/80 never fails to put a smile on his face, and he went on to prove it by grinning happily all through our photoshoot. Brooke Midgley (p40) doesn’t take his MGA too seriously, but at the age of 78 and after 50 years together he is still ready at the drop of a hat to drive it to Italy or anywhere else for a bit of fun. And then there is Perry Stephenson, who doesn’t race competitively for trophies but who has been a regular at Santa Pod for a decade with his BGT. That car now sports a comically
large engine bursting out of the bonnet and capable of propelling Perry and his MG down the strip at a phenomenal pace. Just look at the picture on the cover – which was taken by Perry’s friend and Santa Pod’s resident photographer Ian Blackett and which is pure quality – and you’ll see what I mean. But like all the other featured owners, Perry does it just for fun. As a result, and once again like all the other featured owners, he was a delight to spend time with. So let’s never forget that while a car is a means of getting from A to B, an MG can be so much more. So however you do it, I hope you are not forgetting to have fun with yours!

MG Enthusiast

I look forward to receiving my copy each month when it arrives in my post box, however since covid19 & no flights from the UK, I haven't seen a copy for months now.
I am happy to be able to read the online version but do prefer the hard back copy which I collect !
