THEY’RE BACK – the cuckoo, the corncrake, the swallow, the birdwatchers, pilgrims, tour buses and motor homes. It’s spring at last! The great thing about the seasons, despite global warming and the fact this winter seemed to go on forever, is their reassuring predictability. Spring, summer, autumn, winter, always in that order.
The basic human need for security is no longer always to be found in a steady job, a life-long marriage, a nation at peace, as the world we live in becomes more and more uncertain in so many ways.
A verse from an old and well-loved hymn, ‘Great is thy faithfulness’, points to the steady rhythm of the seasons and beyond to the creator.
