Saints in dominant mood as they knock five past the Ants

Oban Saints 5

St Anthony’s 1

Pre-season friendly

LAST Saturday Saints welcomed first-time visitors St Anthony’s to Glencruitten for a pre-season friendly match but quickly whipped away the welcome mat to give their semi-professional guests from the West Region Central District Junior League a torrid afternoon.

Manager Alex Craik returned from holiday to resume team selection duties but found his options limited by a lengthy list of unavailable players due to injury and other commitments.

There were only six survivors from the XI who started against Vale of Leven last week with Thomas McCulloch lining up in goal behind a back four of Jamie Graham, Craig Campbell, Dene Cassells and Dougal Graham. Paul Kerr took up his accustomed position anchoring the midfield with Donald Campbell and Scott Maitland for company.

Alex was keen to have a look at the versatile Martin Bonar in an attacking role and handed him the number nine jersey flanked by young Fraser MacFarlane and Craig MacEwan.
