There is nothing more agonising for parents than the death of their offspring, especially if the cause is deemed avoidable.
However, that is the reality faced by the family of Scott MacAlister, who passed away in a tragedy at sea when the fishing boat on which he was working foundered. What has made their loss even more unbearable is having to have fought since the sinking for a fatal accident inquiry (FAI) to be held into the circumstances which surrounded the accident.
For four years the family have waited for the inquiry in the hope of finding answers as to how and why Scott lost his life.
