The spotted turtle
The spotted turtle (Clemmys guttata) is a North American species, which ranges from Ontario in southern Canada down along the eastern seaboard of the USA, extending to Florida. A separate population is to be found around the eastern side of the Great Lakes. These turtles generally inhabit areas where there is shallow water, such as bogs and marshland, and they are omnivorous in their feeding habits. They wander quite widely on land, and can then be vulnerable to predators such as raccoons.
