The best way to handle any discord is not to get to that point in the first place. If you can avoid a hostile colleague altogether, or get over your objection to the way your spouse stacks the dishwasher, you’ll be happier – and, some research suggests, physically healthier. But some confrontations are unavoidable, and occasionally essential. Dishwasher stacking isn’t important but, if your partner’s upsetting habit is dangerous driving, that’s a different matter.
Fortunately, conflict needn’t mean shouting and drama: there are ways to navigate choppy waters more calmly.
