A £300MILLION scheme to build a loop line and station serving Doncaster Sheffield Airport in South Yorkshire has been rejected by the Department for Transport (DfT).
Despite support from airport owner Peel Holdings and regional politicians, and claims it could create up to 72,000 new jobs, the DfT did not believe the scheme offered value for money.
It is believed the DfT’s concerns centred around the estimated passenger growth figures for the airport.
