BELGIAN freight operator LINEAS has renewed its deal with GB Railfreight for the haulage of imported kaolin from Calais to the UPM Caledonian Paper mill at Irvine in Ayrshire.
GBRf provides a ‘hook-andhaul’ service to the former freight division of Belgian National Railways, which is now privately owned.
Each train is formed of 20 ICA bogie tank wagons, carrying up to 1,200 tonnes of product for the paper industry. Two to three trains per month are handed over by LINEAS at Calais, normally on a Tuesday night, and hauled via the Channel Tunnel and West Coast Main Line to Ayrshire, arriving the following evening. Empty wagons for Antwerp are returned to Dollands Moor by Friday evening.
