Adjust Your Travel Habits to increase Fuel Savings
We don’t want to repeat what you may already know about the current spike in fuel prices. What we will point out, however, is how you can find some value per tank of fuel while enjoying RVing this season.
There are a variety of ways to reduce fuel consumption including monitoring load weight and tire pressure, scheduling routine engine maintenance, and limiting the use of the A/C. These are all effective but adjusting your travel habits can be very beneficial as well.
One of the great advantages of living in Canada is you don’t have to travel far to enjoy a great RV trip. Visiting destinations closer to home will result in fuel savings while still allowing you to spend quality time outdoors. If you prefer to go further, try offsetting fuel consumption by staying sites off the grid for little to no charge. A number of choices can be found by using apps like iOverlander or Campendium.
Another way to decrease fuel consumption is by carefully planning your route. Sitting in summer traffic while on route to a destination isn’t fun. It can be even worse watching the fuel gauge slowly sink towards “E.” Many apps like Waze and RV-specific GPS units display alternate routes in the event major highways are slowed to a stop.
In simple terms, fewer visits to the pump result in cost savings. Securing a site at a local campground for the season or visiting a destination for longer periods are other smart best practices. Regardless of your travel habits, it’s still important to get away this summer and enjoy time using your RV.
