In this issue of Teach Reading & Writing our aim, as ever, is to
support you as you guide your pupils towards those all important
literacy targets, with expert advice on everything from improving
spelling (p.74) to developing familiarity with academic language
(p.63). At the same time, though, we want to encourage creativity
and celebrate originality – even when it doesn’t tick all the assessment boxes. We recognise that, as Ros Wilson points out on page 80,
inspired writers are not born, but made; and that what happens in the classroom is absolutely a part of that.
Because you may not currently be teaching the next Michael Morpurgo or
J.K. Rowling – but you know what? Their teachers didn’t think they
were, either....
