Traditionally, pure graphite - and charcoal - have been considered black drawing media; however, Derwent has created coloured graphite XL blocks, which can be used wet or dry.
These blocks are water-soluble so can be used on a damp surface to build up layers of colour, in numerous shades and tones. They make a valuable contribution to the way I draw and paint with both media - individually, or at the same time.
