Abstract landscapes
Thank you, Shirley Trevena, for your article in the March 2023 issue of The Artist, on inspiration for abstract landscapes. I have always struggled with abstract painting, as I tried to break away from being too detailed. So, one evening in my studio (lovely garden shed) I thought, here goes! Using watercolour, pen and pastel I finished my abstract landscape in very quick time and was reasonably pleased, so decided to show my husband as he always tells me honestly what he thinks. Well, he was very impressed with my painting of beautiful Dartmoor. But I still couldn't break away completely from the detail. It's three-quarters abstract and one-quarter detailed but I'm happy with what I achieved. I was really out of my comfort zone! Annie Porter, by email
