Goodness but Sue Barker’s achieved a lot in her sixty one years, and all the while making it look like she’s loved every second, which in fairness and with only a few exceptions, she probably has. Her skill is that she makes it look effortless, but it’s not just the players who have to put in hours of training for Wimbledon, so, too, must the woman at the helm of the BBC’s live coverage of the tournament. Facts must be within easy reach of fingertips, tennis greats must be interviewed, and every eventuality rain, surprise wins, shock defeats, and more rain, must be handled with unflappable confidence.
