One of the things we worry about most in sports is: “Am I getting enough protein?” However, if you’re eating enough calories to support your wellbeing, from a good variety of whole foods it’s nearly impossible to not be eating enough protein.
For example, in the UK the average woman weighs 70kg, and the recommended intake for protein is 0.75g/kg/day (for adults) which equates to 52.5g However, the average protein intake for women in Britain is 64g per day, so close to 12g more protein than is recommended for health. Bear in mind that this is the ‘average’ person, having the ‘average diet’ – so not necessarily a healthy one.
