Harry Josephine Giles has won the 2022 Arthur C. Clarke Award, the UK’s most prestigious award for science fiction, for Deep Wheel Orcadia (Picador), receiving £2,022 and a specially engraved bookend. The short novel is the most unusual title to win the Clarke Award in its 36 years, being a science-fiction verse novel written in the Orcadian dialect, as well as being the first full-length book in the Orkney language in over 50 years. The published book contains a parallel translation in English by the author.
