It’s not just politicians that are expert liars, or truth diverters – writers are too. We do it all the time in our writing. We make up people who don’t exist, put them in settings they’ve never really been to or make up villages, towns or cities to suit our narrative. Then we put them in situations of our making. We even try and fool our readers by putting in a few red herrings to throw them off the scent as to who really did it. Even in non-fiction we have to delve through reams of research, much of it patchy and from witness statements or second or third hand, to uncover the truth, or a version of it. So this month, we’re going to put our liar, liar, pants on fire skills to good use.
