Furniture facelift

Feature and styling Sophie Holt

We are big fans of recycling here at Your Home and nothing goes to waste – so when we had a few handy scaffold boards leftover from an old project, we knew we had to put them to good use. By cutting, sanding, painting and adding a hanging bar underneath we transformed them into useful kitchen shelves – that could work just as well in any room.

You will need

✓ three scaffold boards ✓ tape measure ✓ pencil ✓saw PSM 10,8 LI multisander, £89.99, Bosch ✓ damp cloth ✓ screwdriver ✓ hammer ✓ PSB 18 LI-2 ergonomic drill, £100, Bosch ✓ countersink bit ✓ screws ✓ Urbane Grey eggshell, £27 per litre, Little Greene ✓ paint brush ✓ 2” x 2” batten ✓ industrial style rail, £30, Cox & Cox ✓ four metal end caps, optional

About Your Home Magazine

Well, autumn is well and truly upon us but I think there’s something quite comforting about the nights drawing in, and having the chance to curl up on the sofa in front of a roaring fire. In this issue we’ve got plenty of great ideas for making your home super cosy for the coming months. If you’re thinking of replacing your flooring with something warmer, or more stylish, underfoot then make sure you read our fantastic eight-page special on page 36 where we take a look at all the latest designs for floors. Meanwhile, on page 18, you can discover how to use this season’s woodland trend to create the ultimate cosy scheme for autumn. While our craft section this month has even more woodland-inspired projects to add the perfect finishing touches to your home (p.60). Does your kitchen need a quick revamp before it gets busy in the run-up to Christmas? Then take a look at our round-up of the latest looks for worktops and splashbacks (p.50) – you’ll be amazed how easy and affordable it is to give your kitchen a whole new look with this one simple change. If you have young kids, or family with mobility problems, then making your bathroom safe for them can often mean compromising on design, but our feature on page 56 shows you can combine form with function for a bathroom that still packs a style punch. Finally, if the weather starts to turn cold outside, turn to page 100 for some wonderful, warming comfort food recipes.
