Sign of the times: MSV has replaced BMW M4s with Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ns
MONDAY
I’m profoundly surprised to see that PalmerSport has begun offering ‘taster laps’ in a Hyundai Ioniq 5Nas anew component of its eight-car, on-limit performance driving days at Bedford Autodrome. After all, what we’ve surely learned about EVs is that most lack character and few can survive full-noise use on a race circuit for long.
It turns out that the Ioniq 5Nidea came to Jonathan Palmer when he drove one last year at our Britain’s Best Driver’s Car shootout at Cadwell Park, one of five circuits run by his Motorsport Vision group. MSV was looking to move on from aBMW deal and alighted on Hyundai as a tech-driven car-making giant with a pedigree of impressive driver’s cars like the recently departed i20 N. Palmer, open-minded about EVs, was deeply impressed with the Ioniq 5Nand believed his customers would be too.
