Our scribe’s wheels
THE SCRIBE WOULD have loved our car choice for this trip, and after our day-long journey of around 400 miles punctuated by visits, interviews, photo-stops and one satisfyingly fast charging session, so did I. It’s a fair bet that any contemporary £120,000 luxury saloon would have done this job, but our Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ Business Class saloon had attributes that moved it from excellent to nigh-on perfect. The first advantage is its special look: it stands apart because of its packaging and thus its sleek, simple, ultra-classy shape. The compact EV powertrain allows a short nose (with three-pointed star mascot blessedly back in place) that means much of the 5.2-metre length can be dedicated to cabin space. The luxurious, top-quality interior is so good that even if a few top-end rivals are plusher, you just don’t care.
