Tandy has won everything worth winning in sports cars, and all for Porsche
The regular glances and can-you-believe-it grins to his wife and two children said it all: Nick Tandy was more than a little bewildered to find himself suited and booted in front of an illustrious audience at the Royal Automobile Club on London’s Pall Mall to pick up a special award for his unique achievement in motorsport.
At heart, the 40-year-old is still a Ministox racer from Bedford. In reality, he has come on a fair way from those gritty, three-races-a-night, three-times-a-week, short-oval skirmishes in which, between the ages of 11 and 16, he learned how to win. Now here he was picking up the historic Segrave Trophy for becoming the first racing driver to score overall victories at the world’s four 24-hour sports car racing ‘majors’: at Le Mans, the Nürburgring, Spa and Daytona.
