MY WEEK IN CARS

Fiesta is much missed – but Ford has now given fans a glimmer of hope
MONDAY Editor Mark Tisshaw and I were chatting over the phone, inevitably about the car industry and specifically about the fragments of information that have recently emerged about Ford’s plans for a bigger and better European future.
It’s fascinating how bits of the news jigsaw emerge. A couple of weeks ago, we heard from chairman Bill Ford himself that the company knew it had to do better over here – and was working on it right now. He reckoned we would be pleased with the outcomes it was planning without giving any detail of what that was. Then we heard that CEO Jim Farley had been in Europe too, laying down some serious European product plans. And now comes news of the emergence of a smaller, simpler Ford EV platform – the basis, eventually, for at least seven models.
