Off The Beaten Track 6
You all know what to expect when you see the words “Off The Beaten Track” on the front of a BC Mag, and believe me when I tell you that this month you are not going to be disappointed. But also believe me that these magazines do not just fall together by chance. Of all the themed magazines, this type is without a doubt the hardest to put together. I am always looking out for good stories, and I must admit that I am offered some great material from our readers, but when it comes to guesting, or even under the radar venues or anglers, these are the hardest ones to get, and sometimes… quite often in fact… they never materialise for one reason or another.
I have two friends who love a bit of skullduggery: one has been fishing for an unknown 50-plus fully that he has seen in a no-fishing venue, and the other a 50-plus common that’s is in a lake that is very dangerous to fish. They told me about their exploits two years ago, but despite giving it their best shot the fish have evaded capture. Hopefully one day we will get to hear their stories.
Even this issue had its problems… Another friend who has caught a huge nature reserve common, never seen in print, was all set to write in this issue, only to find that he could not get his hands on the photos, his mate who has the photos being somewhat unavailable at the moment! Then another guy with a near-50 mirror once again from a no-fishing venue sent me some photos, said he would do a write-up and then vanished off the face of the earth… No doubt he changed his mind. Then there are those guys who I know are regularly ‘at it’ but always fob me off with a “One day, Rob… one day!”
