Wood flooring is a favourite among self builders and renovators kitting out their homes – and it’s easy to understand why. Well cared for, it’s a durable solution that can last for decades. Plus, there’s a huge array of timber species and finishes to choose from, depending on the interior aesthetic you want to create.
When specifying wood flooring, a lot depends on where you’re planning to install it and whether you intend to fit underfloor heating (UFH). Engineered boards offer superior stability thanks to their cross-layered core, so are better-suited to UFH, as well as for use in kitchens and bathrooms. They’re generally slightly cheaper than solid planks, too, though prices vary significantly depending on species, board size and supplier.
