Hoj House

This rear extension to a Victorian terraced house in North East London, masterminded by Studio Merlin, was designed to help connect the living spaces to the owner’s much-loved garden. Internally, an exposed Douglas fir roof structure adds wow with its rich amber tones. A neutral colour palette and polished concrete floor accentuate the effect, allowing the ceiling to take centre stage. Pastel pink and yellow stained timbers were chosen for the kitchen units, to pick up the hues of the structural joinery. Large pivot doors and frameless rooflights draw natural light deeper into the floorplan and provide better connectivity with the garden.
