Welcome
As of March 2025, it’s been 10 years since the landmark Self Build and Custom Housebuilding Act came into force. Brought to parliament by Richard Bacon MP, who stepped aside at the last general election, the Act seeks to increase choice and diversity in the UK housing market. The approach it takes is to require local authorities in England and Wales to permission sufficient serviced plots to meet demand for self-commissioned homes in their areas. That demand is measured on so-called Right to Build registers.
