The Dinky Toys journey began hot on the heels of the success of Meccano’s ‘Modelled Miniatures’ series of railway accessories, launched to accompany its Hornby train sets.
Following increasing demand for model vehicles too, Meccano Dinky Toys were advertised for the first time in the April 1934 edition of the Meccano Magazine. By 1935 Meccano claimed there were 200 varieties to choose from.
A pair of scarce, pre-war 28 Series Dinky vans feature in Tennants’ sale of Toys, Models & Collectables on April 5 in Leyburn, North Yorkshire.
