Christmas show and sale at Oban Livestock Centre

United Auctions held its annual Christmas show and sale of all classes cattle at Oban Livestock Centre when they had a catalogued entry of 1,095 head. A large following of buyers were in attendance and prices realised were comparable to recent levels obtained at other principal mainland centres.

Bullocks levelled out at £607.60 per head or 211.53 pence per kilo (-£54.69 per head or -26.43 pence per kilo). Heifers averaged £537.72 per head or 195.6 pence per kilo (-£62.15 per head or -31.06 pence per kilo). The judging of the various classes was in the capable hands of Mr. S Bett, Castleton and his awards are as follows: Mainland Bullock: 1st M/s MacGillivray, Barcaldine HF; 2nd M/s Lines, Killocraw; 3rd M/s Semple, Dippen. Mainland Heifer: 1st R Currie, Low Dunasshery; 2nd R Wright, Woodend. Island Bullock: 1st RSPB, Aoradh; 2nd M/s MacInnes, Ruiag; 3rd Mr. D MacCormick, Baligarve. Island Heifer: 1st R Cunninghame, Neriby; 2nd M/s MacInnes, Ruaig; 3rd RSPB, Aoradh. Champion Animal = R Cunninghame. Reserve Champion = M/s MacGillivray.
