Arran’s iron man toughs it out

Big Davy Ballantyne was making ‘slow but steady’ progress up Goat Fell as The Banner went to press - and is in good spirits despite blistered hands and pulled muscles.

Pulling a blacksmith’s anvil weighing more than 100kg to the top of 2,866 foot high Goat Fell on Arran is no mean feat - but, as reported in last week’s Banner, 54-year-old Davy is doing it for charity.

His daughter Roisin was diagnosed with type one diabetes over a year ago, and he is determined to raise money to support research into the condition.
