ANTIGUAN sprinter Miguel Francis has seen his attempted transfer of allegiance to Great Britain hit a snag as his country’s national federation have refused to expedite the process, AW understands.
In September the AntiguaObserver reported that the 21-year-old sprinter, who ran for his country at the 2015 World Championships, had requested a transfer of allegiance to compete for Great Britain.
IAAF rules state that an athlete who has represented a member nation must wait three years following the acquisition of new citizenship until they are permitted to compete for their new country, though this period can be reduced upon agreement with the athlete’s current federation.
