LIBREOFFICE
Export files in PDF 2.0 format
The new version of LibreOffice (25.8, www.snipca.com/56105, released in August), finally adds support for PDF 2.0. This is the latest PDF standard, approved back in 2017. It uses stronger encryption, making it harder for anyone to edit your PDFs without permission. It also works more consistently across different operating systems, software and devices – so fonts, images and layouts appear as you want them to.
PDF 2.0 files are backwards compatible, so they can be opened in most older PDF software – though you won’t benefit from the new features. These also include tags that help screenreaders understand headings, emphasis and structure, as well as the ability to embed files directly inside the PDF. Plus, files stored as PDF 2.0 are likely to remain readable for longer than previous standards.
To export as PDF 2.0, click ‘File’ at the top left then select Export As, followed by ‘Export as PDF’. Make sure the General tab is selected ( 1 in our screenshot) then choose PDF 2.0 in the ‘PDF Version’ dropdown menu 2 (the previous standard, PDF 1.7, is also an option). Make any other changes you need. Finally, click Export 3 .
Note that LibreOffice 25.8 is the first version not to work on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, nor on 32bit systems.
