Dancing Times  |  February 2016
We seem to be going all around the world in this latest issue of Dancing Times, giving the magazine a real international flavour. As well as our popular regular columns from New York and St Petersburg, plus reviews in Dance Scene of productions in Canada, France, Germany and Hong Kong, we also pay visits to Austria, China, Denmark and Spain to find out about the dance happening there, as well as, of course, in the UK.
In Vienna, Gerald Dowler meets Manuel Legris, the former étoile of the Paris Opéra Ballet who is now director of the Vienna State Ballet. Barbara Newman pays a visit to Spain to sample some of the dance on offer in both Madrid and Mallorca, and David Mead travels to New York to talk to upcoming young choreographer Justin Peck about his future plans. Alison Gallagher-Hughes finds out about the new Blackpool Dance Festival China, and Lee Knights introduces to us a new social dance style, new hustle, which is making its way to the UK from the US.
In addition, Margaret Willis meets our Dancer of the Month, the Australian-born Ashley Shaw, who is currently appearing in Matthew Bourne’s version of Sleeping Beauty, and Nicola Rayner meets up with the professional ballroom and Latin dancer Robin Windsor to find out about his plans post Strictly Come Dancing. As you can see, there’s a lot to read; we hope you enjoy it!
