Dancing Times  |  May 2016
This latest issue of Dancing Times has two strands running through it: the annual British Open Dance Festival, which will be at Blackpool from May 26 to June 3, and a focus on horror and dance, to mark the premieres of two new works that take classic horror stories as their themes.
Nicola Rayner catches up with Andrea Ghigiarelli and Sara Andracchio, one of the world’s top professional ballroom couples, who will be representing England at Blackpool; and Alison Gallagher-Hughes takes a behind-the-scenes look at the latest CD recording by Ashley Frohlick’s Empress Orchestra, With You in Mind, which will be launched at the Festival.
In addition, Sanjoy Roy, a connoisseur of all things ghoulish and gory, as well a dance critic, guides us through the often macabre world of horror as depicted in dance; Marianka Swain meets choreographer Drew McOnie on the eve of his new version of Jekyll and Hyde at The Old Vic; and Paul Arrowsmith meets the designer John Macfarlane, who is creating the sets and costumes for Liam Scarlett’s Frankenstein for The Royal Ballet. We hope you will be suitably enraptured or fearful!
