John Cranko and the Stuttgart Ballet
Fifty years ago, choreographer-director John Cranko died, depriving the ensemble named in 1969 by dance critic Clive Barnes ‘The Stuttgart Ballet Miracle’ of its guiding force. In today’s Stuttgart, Cranko’s artistic and personal approach still resonates and continues to exert an influence on an ensemble which, as he did himself, resolutely looks to the future.
