DIVA: Why is supporting the LGBT+ community important to you?
DAWN BUTLER: Equality is equality. When a group of people are being victimised, discriminated against, or side-lined because of who they are, it’s the responsibility of all of us to fight for that group’s rights.
What do you think it takes to be a good ally?
Continuous awareness – it’s not a one-off. Being an ally is something that you have to embed in everything that you do, and sometimes that means having awkward conversations with people within your own circles, and even your own family. That’s what it takes.
