Dolls House World

Issue 374 You can’t see any people in Carrine Gee’s Ivy Manor but it has a tremendous lived-in feel. Things aren’t perfect and there’s lots of clutter. A pair of sandals by the washing machine look as though someone has just stepped out of them, and there’s a dusting of icing sugar in the kitchen where tasty treats are being prepared. On the table, featured on the front cover, breakfast is well underway — bowls of cereal have their toppings on and boiled eggs have their tops off. Buns look as though they have just emerged from the oven. The sewing room is another treat, complete with loom and a gorgeous cupboard packed with supplies. It’s not surprising that this is Carrie’s favourite room. The only surprise is that she’s not a huge sewing fan. Carrine admits the inside of the house didn’t end up as planned since it “took on a bit of a life of its own”. But the end result is wonderful and you can find out how Ivy Manor went together in this issue. We’ve lots more amazing houses inside, as proud makers share their building secrets, and plenty of projects to inspire you too. You can make everything from an easy picnic table to a more challenging vintage suitcase and cake-in-progress board. And don’t forget to try your hand at creating the old-fashioned kitchen scales. Sandra’s been out and about at a fascinating museum and still found time to tell us about her bedsit room and catch up with lots of readers’ projects. Like Carrine’s house, this issue seems to have taken on a life of its own. Hope you like the lived-in feel.
