Cindy Coons was the little girl who always wanted a doll’s house under the Christmas tree, but never found one.
Her wish finally came true many years later when her husband surprised her with a kit on Christmas morning.
Cindy tells us she still cries about the best gift she’s ever received. She and Ray put together the kit and started on a journey creating the fabulous house you see on our cover. Cindy decorates the house depending on the time of year, and we’ve dropped by on Valentine’s Day.
Just one of many stories we have for you this issue. Carlye Wilde tells a lovely tale of how a huge house she found online was delivered, with four people needed to lift it inside. The house, that had been treasured by a mother and daughter, came with a complete photo history of the construction and progress over the years.
The house was Carlye’s introduction to the miniatures world and she told us: “As I have faced my own health challenges over the past few years, doll’s houses have become more than a hobby — they have been a source of comfort and healing.”
She’s taken on many other houses subsequently, many “free, abandoned, and simply waiting to be loved again” making friends along the way.
She said: “This hobby allows my imagination to run free and gives me a creative outlet. It has become central to my happiness and helps me maintain a positive mental outlook. Decorating, painting and bringing a doll’s house to life is incredibly therapeutic. I truly love what I’ve discovered in the doll’s house world and am deeply grateful to share this passion with others.”
