A 13-metre sailing yacht with six of a crew on board ran aground on the Perch at Port Ellen in darkness and a fresh wind on the evening of October 1.
At 10pm Islay and Portrush lifeboats, plus the Coastguard rescue helicopter, were asked to go to her rescue.
Islay volunteer lifeboat crew launched at 10.10pm and, on arrival at the casualty, had to launch their Y-boat to take a tow line to the yacht.There it was fixed to a bridleft but, while taking the strain when attempting pull her off, the bridle snapped. Another tow was fixed to a cleat but that was torn off too.
