There were two significant – though unrelated – events last weekend. These were the 19th Feis Na Mara and the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team’s ‘rescue day’.
Both, thankfully, were hailed as roaring successes, with many people enjoying the music and cultural events at the former in Mallaig and the fun happenings, though with a serious side, at the latter in Fort William. The rescue day was given added poignancy following two fatalities on Ben Nevis within a week, so its underlying message was more important than could have been predicted.
These types of events, however, could not take place without the enthusiasm and hard work of the people behind them. We salute these selfless volunteers for their community spirit and dedication.
