Mary MacColl enjoys her birthday surrounded by friends and family.
There were 100th birthday celebrations recently for a former Ardnamurchan, Oban and Dunbeg woman.
Mary Macintyre was born in Ardnamurchan, where she lived and worked in her early life. She met and married Donald MacColl in 1951 and they set up home in Glenmore, where Donald was a shepherd on the Boot’s estate. They moved to Gallanachbeg in Oban where Donald continued shepherding and later they retired to Dunbeg. Mary and Donald made many friends in and around Oban and were seen regularly at all the Comunn Gaidhealach events. ATher Donald died and Mary became less confident living alone, she moved to Glasgow in 2010 to stay with her daughter Margaret and, when she needed additional care due to dementia, she moved into Mugdock Care Home in Bearsden.
