CAMPS have been in the news a lot lately. In August a weekend of events and exhibitions was held in Kinlochleven to commemorate 100 years since the formation of a First World War prisoner of war camp near the village.

Two months later the huge Calais ‘Jungle’ migrant and refugee camp was dismantled and during Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday there were frequent references to the Second World War internment camps in Europe and the Far East. I wonder though how many readers remember or even know that there was a Second World War Japanese prisoner of war camp and detention centre at Cairnbaan in Knapdale?
