A MULL soldier has been awarded a gold medal of honour for 20 years’ service to the French Foreign Legion.
Colonel Ken Walker, 88, from Tobermory, who also served in the RAF and the 4th Battalion East Lancashire Regiment in the Territorial Army, received La Medaille d’Honneur de l’Amicale de Forbach Echelon OR. ‘I have been a legionnaire for more than two decades and a member with 10th Parachute Regiment, USA, and 6th Parachute Regiment, Germany,’ Colonel Walker said. The regiments are attached to the French Foreign Legion, which Colonel Walker has been supporting.
He was unable to make the medal ceremony in the French Foreign Legion’s veterans annual meeting in Forbach, where it was to be awarded by the Mayor of Épinal.
