Giant or tiny, gaseous or rocky, icy or scorched by lava — exoplanets come in many forms, but all of them seem so far away! Scientists have discovered thousands of these planets outside our solar system. At first glance, it might seem like finding them is as useful as collecting marbles — nice to look at, but what can we actually do with them? They’re hundreds or even thousands of light-years away, and colonizing them is still a distant dream. But that doesn’t mean the search is pointless. By studying exoplanets, we can learn more about how the universe is structured and even look for life beyond Earth.
