While increasing attention is given to the provision of specialist services and the role of drugs and medicines, there is a lot that people can do to help themselves. Pain Concern fulfils a really important purpose in showing how this can be done, providing support and information that is second to none, and led by experts. Pain Concern is one of the most important organizations currently working in this important area” Professor Blair Smith (former National Lead Clinician for Chronic Pain) Pain Concern is a charity working to support and inform people with pain and those who care for them, whether family, friends or healthcare professionals. Our Airing Pain podcasts, Pain Matters magazine, website and publications ensure information on pain and its management is accessible to everyone, everywhere. Our helpline provides information, support or just a listening ear to people affected by pain, while our community outreach and online community provide spaces for people in pain to connect with each other. Our research identifying the Barriers to Self-Management that people experience was published in the BMJ, and led us to develop the Self-Management Navigator Tool to enable realistic discussion between healthcare professional and patient on how they can work together to improve life. It is used across the NHS. We have won awards for our work.
