Last issue, we reported on a school in the Bahamas that had added a plant based menu to introduce the idea of healthier eating to its students. Now, a school in Brooklyn has taken the plunge to a meat-free menu.
The New York school, named PS 1 Bergen Elementary, is the first in the borough to drop meat from its menu — though it was beaten to being the first in the city by Queens Elementary School PS 244. Interestingly, the change in menu is due to student demand.
Principal Arlene Ramos said: “My students have expressed an interest in healthier eating, and the school gave them the option to choose this menu. I am very proud of their decision.”
