With their recently released debut album, Weird Interbreeding, Ekphrasis have a fitfully descriptive title. By interweaving the glassy thump of djent guitars with swelling keyboards, soul music excursions and twisting jazz runs, the quartet expel a sound that thrives in its versatility. A kaleidoscope of moving parts and melding genres, emboldened by John Petrucci-inspired guitar flourishes and Yes-sized crescendos, the record provides further evidence of the blossoming French prog scene.
Benjamin Savariau believes the French scene has more to offer than people realise.
“We’ve got a lot of cool progressive bands in France,” founding member and guitarist/vocalist Benjamin Savariau enthuses. “Bands like Mobius, Klone, Fractal Universe and Adagio prove that. We have a really reactive and loyal scene here too, so we can always put our trust in people turning up to our live shows. Now, with our album released, we want to grow within the international scene too.”
