ONE of the National Railway Museum’s most popular locomotives – LNER‘V2’ No. 4771 Green Arrow – has joined Great Northern Railway 4-4-2 Nos. 251 at the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum in Doncaster.
The move of the Gresley 2-6-2 to the town of its construction was carried out in the utmost secrecy on February 22. Both the NRM and Doncaster Council were keen to discourage people from breaking lockdown restrictions in order to see the loco arrive.
The two locomotives will form the centrepiece of a new exhibition telling the story of Doncaster’s famous‘plant’ and how it helped shaped the economy and fabric of the town.
