Vegan Life  |  Apr-18
This month I had a lovely email from loyal Vegan Life reader Rebecca Willmott that I wanted to share with you all.
Sadly, due to a miscarriage, Rebecca had been spending a lot of time at the Lancaster Women’s Emergency Unit and after flicking through some mindless women’s mags, she decided to donate some of her old issues of Vegan Life to the magazine pile. On her next visit she was pleased to see that the Vegan Life magazines were being proudly displayed on the main desk in the waiting room alongside the health leaflets. “A silver lining to a sad time,” she wrote.
I was thrilled to get Rebecca’s email for two reasons. Firstly, of course, it was lovely to hear from a reader spreading compassion far and wide, especially when life had dealt her such a harsh blow. It was also the fact that on returning, Vegan Life was being promoted and used by the Emergency Unit. Rebecca’s email made me think about how much times have changed.
We are no longer a small community seen as ‘an extreme other’ to the rest of the world and non-vegans are beginning to sit up and listen to our message. This was most evident to me at Vegan Life Live London in February. Thousands upon thousands of people poured into Alexandra Palace and I had the pleasure of speaking to many of them. I was genuinely surprised about how many were not vegan (yet!), but were v-curious and interested in speaking to vegans, listening to us and opening their hearts to a more compassionate life.
Vegan Life Live was a hive of activity. People swarmed from stand to stand in the knowledge that they were supporting vegan and vegan-friendly businesses by eating cake, buying perfumes and listening to some of the most inspirational people on the planet. It was an honour to be there. If you didn’t make it to Vegan Life Live London, this month we are heading to Lancashire for Vegan Life Live Manchester on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of April 2018.
Have a wonderful month. See you in May.
