If you’ve got race fever this month and been inspired to run a marathon, there is no better time to start your training than right now. Spring marathon season may be six months away, but the earlier you start preparing for your race, the more gradually you can build up your distance.
No training cycle ever goes 100% to plan because we all have busy, complicated lives and things happen – expected and unexpected – that can disrupt your training. By starting your preparations early, you can allow for these. Taking a break from the plan for two weeks while you’re on holiday is not a big deal if you plan ahead and have plenty of weeks of running in the bag.
