E mail, which in internet terms has been around forever (although in real terms, since 1993, when its name changed from ‘electronic mail’ to ‘email’), is one of the writer’s most vital tools. We use it to send copy; we can use webmail to store our work freely; we use it for everyday communications – you are much more likely to contact an editor by email than via Messenger.
Logging into webmail isn’t the quickest option, and most of us use email apps on our devices. Many devices come with default ones: Mac Mail for Apple devices; Email on Samsung devices, E-Mail on other Android smartphones. But – for instance, after upgrading to iOS9 and OS X 10.10.4 and beyond – Mac Mail users have faced problems including mail that failed to send, logins failing and the app not checking for new email, or failing to work at all.
